An affiliate network based in the UK has revealed an increase in the number of people in full time employment signing up to become affiliate marketers in their spare time to generate extra commission-based income; whilst also experiencing a 37 per cent increase in the number of graduates getting in touch to tap into the financial rewards of affiliate marketing.
Paid On Results looked into previous enquiry patterns to find out who was behind the affiliate websites that were signing up to the network and to discover more about the people looking to embark on an affiliate marketing journey.
Previous data revealed that as many as one fifth, 21 per cent, of the affiliate websites signed up to the network were run by people with a full time job in a different field; a 10 per cent increase when compared to the same time last year; which suggests a rise in the number of affiliate marketing moonlighters.
When looking at the nature of the affiliate websites run by those who were moonlighting in this field, Paid On Results revealed the most common themes to be as follows:
1. Product review blogs
2. Discount websites
3. Content based blogs
4. Comparison websites
The team at Paid On Results also revealed a 37 per cent increase in 2013 in the number of graduates getting in touch about affiliate marketing or signing up to the network with an affiliate website that they were behind, when compared to the same time last year. In this circumstance, review-based websites were the most popular amongst graduates.
Graeme Sandwell, Managing Director of Paid On Results, said the following: “People are catching on to the financial rewards of affiliate marketing. It’s so straightforward; as an affiliate, you act as a type of virtual sales team by placing links or adverts on your website which will direct visitors to a retailer. When a visitor ends up making a purchase on these retailers’ websites, you receive commission.
“It’s not rocket science, so it’s great to see so many people using this as a second form of income, or at least starting to think about it and enquire about their options. With graduate jobs fairly hard to come by, due to such high demand, affiliate marketing can be a great way for people to put their entrepreneurial skills to the test and make a bit of money at the same time.”
