Startup Institute signs instructors from Yelp and Twitter for inaugural London course

Startup Insitute has also signed partnerships with Boughtbymany, Episode1, MassChallenge and Pivotal Labs for its inaugural London course.

The course is due to begin on 6th October. Students on the course will have access to instructors and mentors, including Kayti Sullivan at Yelp, Jana Sievers at Twitter, and Zach Davidovich, at citysocializer. The Startup Institute instructors will give students valuable training in technical marketing, web development, product and design, and sales and account management.

Startup Institute’s London partners will also give classes to the new London intake. In return, they will get access to a pool of well-vetted graduates that are already familiar with their companies and ready to hit the ground running. Nine out of ten Startup Institute students find a job within three months of graduating from the programme.

Demand for the inaugural London course has been high: there have already been more than three applicants for every place on the course and Startup Institute’s part-time RampUp course has been a success with Londoners over the summer.

London is Startup Institute’s second foray in Europe. The first European class took place in Berlin over the summer, where students worked with Startup Institute Berlin’s instructors and partners – including Delivery Hero, Babbel and Locafox – to build careers in startups in the German capital.

Katarina Jones, Associate Director of Startup Institute in London, commented: “Finding the right talent is a real issue for tech startups in the capital and is a serious threat to London’s long-term position as the leading startup hub in Europe. We’re thrilled to be here and to be working with such a high calibre of partners, but we’re just one small solution to a much larger issue.

“Business leaders and policymakers across the UK need to recognise the role of startups in our economy and ensure we’re producing a workforce fit to drive forward these emerging businesses.”
